What’s New With the Flu?

Flu season is upon us once again. Each year, 5 to 20 percent of Americans get the flu, and more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The good news is that getting vaccinated is a safe way to help prevent the flu.

Getting a flu vaccine is one of the best ways to avoid the flu and stay healthy. If you haven’t yet gotten your flu vaccine, now is the time to do it.

Dr. Kim Erlich, Medical Director of Infection Control at Mills-Peninsula Health Services, recently returned from his fourth volunteer medical trip to the Philippines. He and a group of Mills-Peninsula medical staff volunteered with PhilosHealth – a nonprofit organization formed in August 2004 to improve the health and well-being of people living in rural and underserved areas of the Philippines. PhilosHealth is comprised predominantly of Mills-Peninsula health care providers and supportive community members.
