Mills-Peninsula Chaplain Sam Ortega isn’t always sure whether patients recognize the sound of their favorite music or hear the passages of familiar books as they pass through their final days.
But the occasional moments of awareness, such as a toe tapping in time to a beloved Johnny Cash tune, let Ortega and other volunteers in the No One Dies Alone (NODA) program know the work they do is helping comfort and soothe.
